Found Art Competition

Timeline and Guidelines

Saturday 3/17/07: Materials collection

At least one representative (Stephanie Moss) will sort through and collect from the materials that are coming out of Lake Bradford.

The collected materials will be bagged and kept at the Reservation until the next day.

Sunday 3/18/07: Sculpture building competition

Each team should arrive at the Reservation by 11:30 to ensure parking. Please tell the Reservation staff that you are there for the sculpture competition.

* Please bring your own pair of scissors or something to cut the materials with.

Sculpture building will occur from noon-2 pm. You will have 30 minutes to select the items you want to use and 1.5 hours to construct your sculpture. At 2 PM pictures of each sculpture will be taken to be used for comparing them on Wednesday (Earth Day).

Each team will be given glue/tape/rope to hold their sculpture together.

You will also be provided a box to transport your art work in, please do not make your sculpture bigger than the box.

Each team is responsible for keeping and transporting their art work from Rez Fest to Earth Day. Please do not add anything to your piece during this time (that’s what the pictures are for).

Wednesday 3/21/07: Display and voting

Each team should deliver their art piece to the display table on the Union green no later than 10 am. Please check in at the FSU Sustainable Campus & Community Committee table first.

Voting for the winner will occur throughout the Earth Day fair and the winner announced at the end of the event.

Bag Design Contest

BAG DESIGN CONTEST

The Bag design contest is here! That means that someone in our department will be creating something that will live on for future design students and be representational of our entire department.

THE BRIEF :

For this competition, participants will need to create a LOGO that adequately represents the department of Interior Design at Florida State University - its students, faculty, and curriculum.

Maximum size 8.5 x 11 inches.

Design for a white ink design on black fabric

There must be a digital version of this logo as it will be printed digitally.

The logo must take into consideration that fact that it will represent the entire department - students,faculty and florida state - and in doing so must not include any controversial material (references to alcohol, drugs, profanity, etc.).

There must also not be any usage of t-squares.

IMPORTANT DEADLINES:

All designs must be submitted by the 28th of March (Wednesday in two weeks) In the front office and emailed to fsu.asid.iida@hotmail.com .

Judging will take place on the 30th of March (This will most likely be done by the faculty).

Sign-up to pre-order will be April 2-6, this is important as we will be making 48 bags. ONLY 48 bags (There are 250+ students in the program so make sure and sign up/turn your money as you will not get a bag otherwise!).We are requiring that people sign up and submit their money before we begin the ordering process with the manufacturer. If we do not have sufficient sign up by the 6th of April we will not proceed with the manufacture of the bags due to lack of interest).

We will be selling bags for $15 each

1. Team Building :

-To build your teams, please establish relationships with under/upper classmen starting today. The team you chose cannot be composed of all candidates from the same semester so start meeting people now! A team runs for office, not an individual.

President semester 2 currently

Vice President semester 1 currently

Secretary semester 1 or 2 currently

Public Relations semester 1 or 2 currently

Treasurer semester 1 or 2 currently

-After the 2007-08 term, the vice President will take over the Presidency for the 2008-09 school year.

- Secretary, PR, and Treasurer: Those students who are currently in their first semester, after completion of their first term, will continue to be FSU Undergrad students for an extra year. Therefore they may continue to hold their office during their 4th and 5th semesters with the new team selected to run. They also have the option of choosing another officer position including Vice Presidency.

2. Campaigning Rules:

You may create posters and fliers. Posters can only be displayed from JAN. 29- FEB.2. Posters and publicity must not include derogatory or inappropriate material. Posters and fliers must include candidates names and the office for which they are running for.

3. Voting:

Voting will take place from

JANUARY 29 – FEBRUARY 2.

On FEBRUARY 2, winners will be announced.

Hello Future Designers,

As you know, we had our first meeting of the semester this past Thursday. It seems that this was bad timing as many of you were not able to make it!

Please remember this year that what you put into and organization is what you will take from it. Look out for our many exciting opportunities coming up including new officer elections!

Please look below at the topics that we discussed at our past meeting :

Officer Elections
We will be holding officer elections in the upcoming weeks. If you are at all interested in being an officer in the organization it is imperative that you reply to this email or speak to an officer about this. The officer positions are ones which allow you to work with professional designers nationwide and build great relationships. On a local level, you are responsible for providing your student membership with opportunities to supplement their education and explore the various areas of interior design.Being an officer in the ASID/IIDA student organizations is also a great stepping stone to advancing in the organization. Many of the people who served as student officers have become NATIONAL officers at some point in their careers earning them great recognition and business contacts. Attached are the rules for running for office. You will see that this week is team building week so if you did not make it to the meeting you still have this week to get together your running mates and email the list to us this Friday. Please read over the attachment thoroughly !
ASID Florida South Chapter Student Day:
- This event will be taking place at DCOTA (Dania Beach - near Miami). Find out more here: http://www.asidfsc.org/en/studentcareerday/index.html- This is the event taking place next weekend (January 26, 2007) that currently has posters displayed all over the William Johnston Building.- How much ? - $20 registration fee if you register by January 24, $25 if you register after January 24th.- This does not include hotel room or travel.
IIDA Student Day
This event is taking place in Tampa on February 24th. (There is a cocktail party on the Friday night before (Feb 23).This is an excellent networking opportunity! If you have never been to a big conference event, this might be a great opportunity.- Event registration should take place by January 24th for a fee of $20. After the 24th, the fee is $25. - If you are interested in attending YOU are responsible for registering yourself.- We will attempt to facilitate car pooling with any of our members interested in attending, so if you are interested, PLEASE come to our general meetings where we plan these trips.
ASID Florida North Chapter Student Day
We have out own student day right in Tallhassee this year ! This will be taking place March 24th so please mark your calendars!

Miscellaneous
We are working on several different field trips and events to hold this semester. If you have ideas to make our organization better or events you would like to see happen, please reply to this email and let us know!

Hello Future Designers!


Happy New Year! We are looking forward to having several exciting programs to offer you in the near future.
However, the biggest change that will be occuring rather soon is the election of next year's executive board.
If you are interested in becoming an officer in our student chapter of ASID/IIDA, please make sure and attend our
first general meeting of the semester on

Thursday, January 18th at 6:15PM in the William Johnston Building



2007-2008 Officer Elections are coming !


We are encouraging you to think of people you would like to work beside to create innovative programming for your
peers. The vice president of the organization will need to be one course level below (ex. If you are your friends are in
Studio 2, you will need to find a student from studio 1 to work with). This is so that in the future, there will always
be at least one returning trained executive to continue the growth and development of our organization. If you so choose,
there can be several members from both course levels.

To find out more about what the positions of the executive boards entail, please be present at our general meeting this Thursday.
There will be rules, guidelines for publicity and important dates discussed.We will have a meeting for all those interested in running following our general address so that students from the different
courses can meet each other and make teams.


T-Shirts


On a different note, please pick up t-shirts if you bought one! They are available for pick up from Janie's office. Also,
there are several extra shirts if you would like to make a purchase, we accept cash or check. The shirts are $20 and are
as vibrant and exciting as our program : ) Please consider that there are only a few left (less than 20), so if you intend to buy one,
the time is now!

Student Days

There are many exciting opportunities being made for students this year. Hopefully you have received
some of the publicity for these events already. As you will see below there are several different programs created
specifically or students! Take a look at the dates as they are coming VERY soon. Also, take note of the competitions
that you may be eligible to enter.

IIDA Florida South Chapter will host a terrific
Student Career Day in DCOTA on Friday January
26th.

The beginning of 2007 will be very excited for our Student member Community;
ASID FSC will host a terrific Student Career Day in DCOTA on Friday January
26th.

Being aware of the importance of Green Design and Sustainability, the ASID
FSC will offer a true motivating event to bring to light this subject and
involve the attendees in its development.
We’ll be very honored in having Ms. Penny Bonda, FASID, and LEED AP, as the
keynote speaker. Ms. Bonda is a very renowned professional designer, past
ASID president and eco editor for the Interior Design magazine. She has been
talking about Green issues for more than 10 years, and has been the primary
force behind the development of LEED for Commercial Interiors.
Legislation is another very important issue and will be also part of our
program. Ms. Mary Jane Grigsby will talk about this subject with her easy to
understand and entertaining style.
During the day several mentor Interior Designers and Industry Partners will
guide the students though the design center to enjoy the showrooms and learn
about new products and services offered by them.

To showcase and promote the talent of our Interior Design students, the ASID
FSC will have a Green Design competition and a Senior Student Portfolio
review.
All Interior Design schools in Florida are invited to our ASID FSC Student
Career Day. We want to offer them the best opportunity of learning about
Green Design and networking; designing sustainable products; showcasing
their talent and becoming members of the most prestigious community of
Interior Design Professionals.

By the end of the day, we hope to offer Free ASID Student memberships to the
attendees as we did this year. Thanks to the showrooms at DCOTA which
bigheartedly donated these memberships, we could offer an unequal experience
and a bright future to our new generation of Interior Designers.

We are the new generation of Interior Designers passionate for good design
and eager to create better, sustainable, healthy, and outstanding spaces. We
want and need to learn about sustainability and our upcoming ASID FSC is the
perfect chance to discover the wonders of Green Design.

I'm sending you the registration forms and well as the guidelines for the
Senior Prtfolio review and Design Contest, we'll also mail to you posters
and postcard to promote this event in your schools.

We truly want to have you and your students attending this day to share a
great experience!

Due to several requests, the IIDA Florida Chapter passed a motion to change the eligibility requirements for the design competition. Students who have just graduated (Fall semester) from an Interior Design program are eligible to enter the design competition. Please submit proof of graduation date with the registration form (i.e. photocopy of transcript or diploma).

I realize this is late notice, but I hope to you will still participate in this event. Don’t forget, deadline for competition entries is January 19th….Next Friday!

Also, we are trying to add a message board to our student page that may help students coordinate carpool and roommate situations. We will send out more information when it is up (hopefully by week's end). Keep checking the website for updates!
